What is rhinoplasty/a nose job?
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure performed on the nose to better its appearance for cosmetic reasons, or to restructure the nasal area to improve functionality.

Are there alternatives to rhinoplasty?
Although limited, there are a few alternatives to rhinoplasty.  For example, if the problems lie in breathing through the nose, oftentimes doctors can use steam-heat and/or cream procedures and therapies. However, if you wish to change the appearance of your nose, rhinoplasty is necessary.

Am I a candidate for rhinoplasty?
Generally, if you are over the age of 15 for girls and 16 for boys, and you are either unhappy with the appearance of your nose, or your nose causes you discomfort when breathing, you are an excellent candidate for rhinoplasty surgery.
In addition, you must be in good physical condition and not allergic to certain medications. Feel free to contact us if you are not sure whether or not you can go through a nose plastic surgery.

How long does the rhinoplasty procedure last?
Each rhinoplasty surgery is unique, but typically the surgery will last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours for the closed technique, and up to 4 hours for the open technique.

How do I find a top rhinoplasty surgeon?
Look for clinics in your area and perform diligent research on the surgeons you are considering.  Make sure they are fully certified, well educated, with years of experience, and a high success rate.

We invite to meet our own surgeon, Dr. Howard Bellin which is consider to be one of the best plastic surgeon in the country.

How can I be sure I will like the results?
Since medicine is not a perfect science, there are no guarantees for satisfactory results. However, you can take certain steps to increase the likelihood of a fully successful result.  The most important thing is for you to make sure your surgeon understand you and know what you are trying to achieve. Being on the same same page with your operating doctor is crucial to the creation of realistic expectations.

What type of anesthesia is used for rhinoplasty surgery?
Typically you will have the option to choose between an intravenous anesthetic and general anesthesia.  Your surgeon will likely recommend one or the other for your particular surgery.

What do the terms “closed rhinoplasty” and “open rhinoplasty” mean?
These names refer to the two techniques used for rhinoplasty surgery.  In the closed technique, incisions are only made inside the nose.  In the open technique, incisions are made inside the nose and an additional incision is made to the columella (the piece of skin separating the nostrils), so that the nose can be fully opened up to be operated on by the surgeon.

How should I prepare for my surgery?
Weeks before:    Avoid aspirin or any products containing aspirin (to avoid thinning of the blood which can cause excess bleeding post surgery), take vitamin supplements to promote healing, stay healthy (try to avoid minor illnesses such as colds).
Day before:    Tie up loose ends, prepare ice packs, consider taking Arnica (herbal medication which can reduce swelling and bruising), stock up on foods which are easy to eat and digest, wash your face with antibacterial soap the night before, do not eat past midnight, and get a good night’s sleep.
Day of:    Wash your face with antibacterial soap in the morning, refrain from eating, do not use cosmetic facial or hair products, wear comfortable clothing, and leave plenty to time to arrive at your clinic.
*See How to Prepare for more details.

Are the results long-lasting?
Usually rhinoplasty surgeries are permanent however there is a slight chance of impermanence requiring a second operation or other alterations after the initial surgery.

How long does it take to recover?
Recovery periods vary.  Typically, swelling and bruising will last a few weeks but in an extreme case one can see remnants of swelling for up to one year and even beyond.  You will need a few weeks away from work, school, exercise, etc. post-operation.  Your surgeon will give you more details regarding your specific surgery.  See page:  Recovery.

Is the rhinoplasty recovery time painful?
Recovery from rhinoplasty is not pleasant and can be a little painful at times, but you can take certain measures to reduce the time it takes to recover:  keep your head elevated to reduce swelling; and refrain from blowing or picking your nose for about one month after your surgery to prevent bleeding as much as possible.  You will likely experience an achy nose and sometimes headaches as well for at least a few weeks after.

Will I have scars from a rhinoplasty?
If you received closed technique rhinoplasty surgery, you will have no externally visible scars.  If you received an open technique nose job, you will have a small scar on the piece of skin separating your nostrils (columella) but this generally heals quickly and becomes very difficult to notice at all.

What are the risks associated with rhinoplasty?
